China Reduces Vietnamese Coffee Imports

Today, September 26th, marks the opening of the first Vietnam-China Coffee Festival 2025 in Mengzi City, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. The event, running until September 28th, features participation from several Vietnamese enterprises.

China has emerged as a key target market for coffee producers worldwide, particularly following the retaliatory tariffs imposed by the United States.

In August, China granted export licenses to 183 Brazilian coffee companies, significantly easing the entry of Brazilian coffee into the world’s most populous market.

Despite its geographical proximity, Vietnam’s coffee exports to China remain relatively low, totaling approximately 50,000 tons annually out of its total exports exceeding 1 million tons per year.

In the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam exported nearly 34,000 tons of coffee to China, an 8% decrease compared to the same period last year, positioning China as Vietnam’s 11th largest coffee export market.

A positive note is the substantial export volume in August, reaching 4,501 tons, a 31% increase from July 2025 and a 1.4% rise compared to August 2024.
