Vietnam’s Second-Largest Province Allocates Over $430 Million for Land Clearance and Resettlement in North-South High-Speed Railway Project

According to the Standing Committee of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, the total investment for compensation, support, and resettlement for the North-South high-speed railway project passing through the locality has exceeded 10,310 billion VND.

The People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province has recently submitted a report to the local Steering Committee for Key National Projects regarding the progress of the North-South High-Speed Railway project. Gia Lai Province is currently accelerating preparatory work and land clearance for this significant infrastructure initiative.

According to the Standing Committee of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, the total investment for compensation, support, and resettlement activities in the area exceeds 10.310 trillion VND.

To date, all 18 localities through which the railway will pass have established Compensation Councils and issued specific plans for land clearance. Out of 38 resettlement areas covering over 153 hectares, 30 have received detailed planning approval, while the remaining 8 are in the final stages of documentation for approval. Several areas, such as Tay Vinh (Binh An Commune), have completed land clearance, and others are in the process of inventory and compensation planning.

Regarding the construction of cemetery relocation areas, the project affects 10,336 graves. Six communes and wards have proposed the development of 6 cemetery relocation areas spanning approximately 4.01 hectares to accommodate about 1,270 graves. These areas are currently undergoing planning and construction. Other localities will relocate graves to existing cemeteries based on the actual land clearance progress along the main route.

The route includes two stations: Bong Son Station (Hoai Nhon Nam Ward) and Dieu Tri Station (Tuy Phuoc Tay Commune). The total land requirement for the project in Gia Lai Province is approximately 758 hectares.

The railway passes through 18 merged communes and wards: Hoai Nhon Bac, Tam Quan, Hoai Nhon Tay, Hoai Nhon Nam, Bong Son, Van Duc, Phu My Bac, Phu My Tay, Phu My Nam, Hoa Hoi, Binh Hiep, Binh An, An Nhon, Binh Dinh, An Nhon Tay, An Nhon Nam, Tuy Phuoc Tay, and Quy Nhon Tay.

The People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province emphasizes that this is a key national project with strategic importance for socio-economic development. The province urges all levels and sectors to focus intensely on expediting compensation plans, resettlement support, and community engagement, particularly for directly affected households.
