Nestled in the fertile land of Hau Giang, now part of the newly merged Can Tho City, the WestFood Hau Giang Agricultural and Food Processing Plant was inaugurated to coincide with the 80th National Day celebration. Spanning 7 hectares and boasting an annual capacity of 30,000 tons of processed products, this facility stands as one of the largest agricultural processing hubs in the Mekong Delta.

Built to European standards, the plant integrates cutting-edge technologies such as the European IQF rapid freezing system, a 3-tier conveyor belt network, automated fruit peeling and slicing machines, and self-contained production lines for canned and cupped fruits. Additionally, it features cold storage and cool rooms with a capacity of 3,000 tons. Transformed from an empty plot into a state-of-the-art facility in just two years, WestFood exemplifies relentless determination and ambition.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman and CEO of WestFood

“With unprecedented speed, we’ve turned the impossible into reality, marking a significant milestone for WestFood’s leadership and employees,” shared Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman and CEO. “This advanced facility is poised to deliver high-quality products that meet the demands of even the most discerning global markets.”

A Pioneer in Innovation and Growth

With over 20 years of development, WestFood has earned international certifications including FDA, IFS, BRC, HALAL, FSSC, and FSMA. The company exports a diverse range of products—from canned, frozen, and dried fruits to fresh juices and produce—to markets across Europe, the Americas, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and China. The inauguration of the Hau Giang plant not only signifies WestFood’s advancement but also enhances Can Tho’s reputation as a dynamic, developing city.

Equipped with modern production lines and machinery, the plant ensures increased productivity and consistent quality. WestFood is also committed to R&D, aiming to introduce innovative products that not only meet consumer needs but also set new market standards with 100% WestFood-made offerings.

WestFood’s IQF Rapid Freezing System

To ensure sustainable production, WestFood has developed its own raw material regions, with plans to expand its King MD2 pineapple cultivation to 1,200 hectares by 2030. This initiative strengthens the company’s supply chain while providing farmers with stable income and market access.

The Hau Giang plant will further drive the expansion of raw material regions, benefiting both WestFood and local farmers by fostering a mutually beneficial partnership that mitigates market risks.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City’s People’s Committee, the plant will boost local revenue and agricultural consumption for Can Tho and neighboring provinces, elevating the competitiveness of regional produce on the global stage.

Partnering to Establish Can Tho as a Hub for High-Tech Agriculture

The merger of Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang has created a unified city with a rich cultural heritage and vast development potential, emblematic of the Mekong Delta’s identity.

This consolidation opens up new opportunities, particularly with the future Tran De Port in Soc Trang, strategically located near international shipping routes to the Americas, Europe, and East Asia. This will alleviate pressure on Ho Chi Minh City’s Cat Lai Port, reducing logistics costs and time for Western enterprises like WestFood.

Leveraging these advantages, Can Tho is emerging as the Mekong Delta’s economic hub. The WestFood Hau Giang project exemplifies this potential.

As Can Tho embarks on this new phase, leaders anticipate WestFood’s continued investment in technology, product diversification, market expansion, and cultivation area growth.

“The Mekong Delta contributes 95% of the nation’s rice exports, 65% of seafood, and 70% of fruit exports, offering abundant resources for the plant and establishing a closed agricultural supply chain that benefits hundreds of farming households,” noted Mr. Hoa.

Anticipating WestFood’s continued technological investment and market expansion

“We aim to elevate Mekong Delta produce from farm to global table,” emphasized Mrs. Nguyet, expressing gratitude for the new city’s unified development space and the local government’s support in completing the project.

Can Tho’s leadership pledges to foster a conducive investment environment, offering administrative support, infrastructure, and incentives to ensure WestFood’s success.

Through collaboration among businesses, farmers, and government, Can Tho is poised to become a high-tech agricultural center, propelling Vietnamese produce onto the global stage.
