Thailand’s rice export prices hit a nearly nine-year low last week due to weak demand, while Indian rice prices remained steady after touching a three-year low the previous week.
Thai 5% broken rice was quoted at $350 per ton, the lowest since November 2016, down from $360 per ton the week before. Traders attributed the price drop to ample market supply and weak demand.

Indian 5% broken parboiled rice was quoted at $354-$362 per ton this week, unchanged from the previous week when it hit a three-year low. Indian 5% broken white rice was priced at $369-$375 per ton.

According to the Vietnam Food Association, Vietnamese 5% broken rice was quoted at $440-$465 per ton on September 25, up from $450-$455 per ton a week earlier.

However, as of now, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice remains more expensive than that of Thailand by $16/ton and India by $46/ton.
