At the recent 30th-anniversary celebration of Toyota Vietnam, CEO Nakano Keita announced that the company will modernize its headquarters and production facility in the former Vinh Phuc province, now part of Phu Tho province’s Phuc Yen ward.
Notably, Keita revealed that Toyota Vietnam will soon launch its first hybrid vehicle production line, with a total investment exceeding $360 million.
This move comes as Vietnam tightens regulations on vehicle emissions and fuel efficiency. It remains unclear which hybrid model Toyota Vietnam will assemble domestically.

In fact, the Japanese automaker is considered a pioneer in Vietnam’s hybrid vehicle market. Currently, Toyota Vietnam offers six hybrid models: Toyota Innova Cross HEV, Toyota Corolla Cross HEV, Toyota Camry HEV, Toyota Yaris Cross HEV, Toyota Alphard HEV, and Toyota Corolla Altis HEV. All are imported from Thailand or Indonesia.
Local production will enhance supply chain stability, reduce delivery delays, and potentially qualify for government incentives such as reduced registration fees.
Previously, some Korean hybrid models, including the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, were assembled in Vietnam. However, their hybrid variants were discontinued in the 2024 and 2025 updates.
Toyota Vietnam not only leads in hybrid model variety but also dominates sales in this segment. According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), Toyota sold 4,907 hybrid vehicles in the first eight months of 2025, capturing approximately 58% of the market share.
Across all VAMA members, hybrid sales reached 8,414 units during the same period, an 83% increase compared to 2024, reflecting growing consumer interest in eco-friendly vehicles.
