September 2025 coincides with the seventh lunar month, traditionally known as the Ghost Month. During this period, domestic consumers tend to curb spending on big-ticket items like cars, posing significant challenges for the market.
To counter this, automakers have launched aggressive discount campaigns, offering substantial price cuts to stimulate demand and build momentum for the year-end peak season.
This price war involves major Japanese and Korean brands, with even their best-selling models seeing discounts. Chinese automakers are also joining the fray, with dealers and manufacturers rolling out significant incentives.
Geely kicked off the month with discounts across its lineup. The Coolray, a B-segment SUV, starts at 499 million VND. Additionally, the brand offers a 50% subsidy on registration fees, equivalent to 26.5–31.5 million VND in savings.

The Geely Coolray offers one of the lowest prices in the B-segment SUV category.
The Monjaro, a D-segment SUV priced between 1.099–1.199 billion VND, also receives a 50% registration fee subsidy, saving buyers around 55–60 million VND.
The EX5 electric SUV, priced at 839–889 million VND, sees direct discounts of 30–34 million VND. Buyers also receive a 2.2kW portable charger, a 7kW wall charger, or a 5 million VND discount in lieu of the 7kW charger.
Lynk & Co, distributed alongside Geely, offers registration fee support across its lineup, including the 06, 01, 05, 03+, and 09 models.
The Lynk & Co 01 Hyper (919 million VND) and Lynk & Co 01 (999 million VND) receive a 100% registration fee subsidy, saving buyers up to 92–100 million VND. Other models get a 50% subsidy, equivalent to 34–132 million VND in savings depending on the model and registration location.

MG is among the most aggressive Chinese brands, offering incentives on both 2024 and 2025 models. The MG5, ZS, HS, MG4 EV, G50, and Cyberster all feature registration fee support or gifts, with promotions valued at 10–50 million VND.
Omoda & Jaecoo, in partnership with Geleximco, offers gifts for Jaecoo J7 buyers and low-interest loans plus registration fee waivers for the Omoda C5. Notably, some dealers provide a 100% registration fee subsidy for the Omoda C5 Luxury, reducing its on-road price to around 500 million VND.

In the electric vehicle segment, BYD dealers are offering significant discounts to boost sales. The BYD Atto 3 SUV sees price cuts of 80–130 million VND, bringing its September price down to 686–756 million VND.
The premium BYD Seal sedan offers even larger discounts of 192–214 million VND, reducing its price to 927 million VND and 1.145 billion VND for its two variants.
Chinese hybrid models like the Haval H6 HEV and Jolion also feature substantial dealer incentives, with total savings of 44–120 million VND, including gifts.
Most of these Chinese models have been discounted for 2–3 months, with some 2024 inventory still receiving price cuts. This indicates persistent inventory pressure despite 2025 nearing its end.
Chinese automakers’ prolonged discounting is nearly mandatory for market survival. To compete with established Japanese and Korean brands, they must offer deeper discounts to attract buyers.
