According to Motorcycles Data, Vietnam’s motorcycle market is experiencing a vibrant 2025. Sales have consistently maintained an upward trajectory, with August alone seeing a 17.4% surge. Over the first eight months, a total of 2.08 million units were sold, marking a 15.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Purchasing power for motorcycles in Vietnam has improved across most segments. Scooters saw a 14.8% rise, while gear-shift motorcycles, despite their smaller market share, experienced a surprising 65.6% growth.

Notably, the electric motorcycle segment recorded impressive gains: the L1 category (under 50cc) increased by 89%, while the L3 category (over 50cc) soared by 197%.

These figures highlight the rising trend of electric vehicles, driven by strong consumer demand and a shift toward low-emission transportation.

Electric motorcycles are gaining traction in Vietnam.

Motorcycles Data previously reported that Vietnam is currently the world’s third-largest electric motorcycle market, with approximately 209,000 new electric motorcycles sold, representing over 99% growth in the first half of 2025.

This growth is further bolstered by Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City’s plans to restrict and eventually ban fossil fuel-powered motorcycles, alongside aggressive promotional programs from manufacturers.

VinFast continues to lead the charge, consistently launching new products, including models equipped with dual batteries and battery-swapping systems. In the first eight months, the company’s sales skyrocketed by 447%, solidifying its position as the leader in the electric motorcycle segment and second overall in the market, just behind Honda.

Yadea secured the second spot with a 41.5% growth rate, thanks to its “trade-in” strategy and back-to-school promotions.

According to Motorcycles Data, Honda’s sales in Vietnam grew modestly by 6.3%, while Yamaha saw an 8.6% decline.

Among members of the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), Honda is the only company to release detailed monthly sales figures. In its August report, Honda announced sales of 154,599 motorcycles, a 21.66% drop from July and 13.4% lower than the same period last year.

However, the August decline can be attributed to weaker buying sentiment during the Ghost Month. Cumulative sales for the fiscal year through August reached 864,396 units, a slight 2.2% increase.
