According to Plan No. 264/KH-UBND dated September 26, 2025, regarding the groundbreaking ceremony for various projects in celebration of the 71st anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2025), the Hanoi People’s Committee announced that the ceremonies will take place from October 4 to 10 at selected locations.

The Hanoi People’s Committee emphasized that these events hold significant importance in public communication, fostering a positive social impact, and strengthening public trust and consensus for projects in urban infrastructure, transportation, and social sectors.

Among the projects slated for groundbreaking during this period are several key transportation initiatives, including the urban railway line No. 2 (Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao section), Thuong Cat Bridge over the Red River, and the Co Linh underpass.

Notably, the Pearl Theater and Thematic Cultural Park project, with a total investment of VND 12,756 billion (approximately USD 485 million), will commence on October 5.

The project’s investor is Sun City LLC, a subsidiary of Sun Group.

The Pearl Theater and Thematic Cultural Park project will be executed in two phases, from Q1/2025 to Q3/2029. Phase 1 will focus on constructing the Pearl Theater, while Phase 2 will involve the development of the thematic cultural park.

Rendering of the Pearl Theater

The Pearl Theater (Hanoi Opera House) will be located on Quang An Peninsula, Hanoi, covering a total area of over 191,240 m². Approximately 182,000 m² will be allocated for the theater and park, with the remainder designated for parking and transportation infrastructure.

The Hanoi Opera House is part of the Sun Grand City Tay Ho View project, developed by Sun Group.

The site borders Dang Thai Mai Street to the east and southeast, West Lake to the west, an existing residential area to the northwest, and a planned road connecting Dang Thai Mai and Quang Ba to the north.

Designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, the theater joins his portfolio of iconic structures, including the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris and The Shard in London.

The Hanoi Opera House will rise above Dam Tri Lake, featuring a unique dome-shaped architecture inspired by the waves of West Lake. The dome’s surface will be clad in ceramic tiles with a pearlescent effect, reflecting light and the dynamic interplay of space and time, showcasing various hues of the sky and water throughout the day. Whether at dawn, dusk, or night, the dome will display distinct color variations.

Additionally, the theater incorporates advanced design technologies and techniques. The main auditorium’s walls will be equipped with mechanically operable acoustic panels, ensuring optimal sound reflection, absorption, and reverberation tailored to different artistic performances.

Upon completion, the theater is expected to be one of Asia’s largest, seating over 2,000 spectators. It will serve as a versatile venue for major cultural and political events, as well as a multifunctional cultural complex for arts, entertainment, and recreational activities.
