Samsung’s One-Year-Old Smartphone
The Ultra series often steals the spotlight in Samsung’s marketing campaigns, causing users to overlook the “middle child” Plus variant when purchasing a new smartphone.
Just over a year old, the Galaxy S24 Plus is becoming the ideal choice for those seeking a large-screen Samsung phone with powerful specs, without breaking the bank for the increasingly expensive Galaxy S Ultra series.
Last year’s Plus model featured a significantly larger screen than the standard version, yet it wasn’t as heavy or pricey as the Ultra “beast,” offering a balanced option. Compared to this year’s S25 Plus, the S24 Plus remains a strong contender.

While it lacks some Ultra features like the S Pen and additional telephoto cameras, the Galaxy S24 Plus still offers plenty. Its price has dropped from $1,100 at launch to around $650 in Vietnam, comparable to some mid-range models.
Tom’s Guide notes that if you envision the most well-rounded smartphone of 2025, it would resemble the Galaxy S24 Plus: sleek design, powerful chip, seven years of software support, and a trusted brand.
The device features flat Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both sides, sandwiched by a flat aluminum frame, with three distinct rear cameras. The front is nearly all screen—a 92% screen-to-body ratio OLED display with thin, symmetrical bezels. It’s a minimalist, flat-design smartphone.
When used without a case, the S24 Plus impresses with its build quality. The frame is sturdy, and the buttons feel responsive and solid.

The Galaxy S24 Plus highlights a 6.7-inch OLED screen, upgraded to 1440×3120 resolution—matching the S24 Ultra, just 0.1 inches smaller.
It retains a 120Hz display with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, slightly lower than the Ultra but still highly visible in direct sunlight. Even phones with half this brightness are usable outdoors, so the S24 Plus excels here.
Support Until 2031
The S24 Plus offers a larger screen than the standard S24 (6.2 inches) without the Ultra’s premium price.
All Galaxy S24 models receive seven years of OS and security updates, meaning the S24 Plus could run Android 21 in 2031.
Currently, it also receives the latest One UI 8, like the S25 series.
At its affordable price, buyers can rest assured their investment will last into the next decade. Whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (or Exynos 2400 in Asia) will remain performant in 2031 is uncertain, but it handles tasks smoothly today.

Apps launch instantly, multitasking is seamless, and games run at max settings.
Battery life isn’t groundbreaking but has improved over 2023 flagships. Capacity increased from 4,700mAh (S23 Plus) to 4,900mAh (S24 Plus), easily lasting a full day.
In mixed usage—browsing, messaging, gaming, and video—the S24 Plus lasts about a day and a half with 7-8 hours of screen time.
Additionally, the S24 Plus includes Samsung’s signature AI features.
Its camera setup includes a 50MP main, 10MP 3x telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide lenses—identical to the S23 Plus. The front camera is 12MP.
Most photos from the S24 Plus are high-quality, with excellent dynamic range and minimal noise.
Overall, as Samsung’s 2024 flagship, the S24 Plus remains competitive even against the Galaxy S25 series. At just $650, it’s significantly cheaper than the S25 Plus and comparable to the newly launched Galaxy S25 FE.
