In the overnight trading session ending early this morning, October 2, 2025 (Vietnam time), coffee prices surged on both major exchanges. Robusta coffee futures on the London market rose by 189-203 USD/ton, marking a 4.6-4.83% increase, while Arabica prices on the New York market climbed by 2.41-2.93%.
Robusta Prices Jump by 5,300 VND/kg Overnight
For the benchmark contracts, November 2025 Robusta futures settled at 4,403 USD/ton, up 203 USD/ton, and December 2025 Arabica futures reached 8,460 USD/ton, gaining 200 USD/ton.
Today’s coffee prices are expected to surge significantly, starting from 115,900 VND/kg before the London market opens. When converted using the current exchange rate, prices on the exchange have already risen by 5,300 VND/kg.
This sharp increase is likely influenced by ongoing natural disasters in Vietnam, the world’s largest Robusta coffee exporter, which is currently entering its harvest season. These events raise concerns about potential impacts on Vietnam’s coffee production.
Currently, Robusta prices are approximately half those of Arabica, making them relatively affordable despite the recent surge. In the previous season, Robusta prices even surpassed Arabica at times.

75 Million USD Invested in the Coffee Sector
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has partnered with ECOM, a global agricultural commodities trader, to provide a 75 million USD loan aimed at supporting smallholder coffee farmers and promoting sustainable coffee supply chains.
The loan will facilitate stable coffee procurement from over 60,000 smallholder farmers across Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and Papua New Guinea.
Additionally, the project will offer advisory services, including coffee certification, pilot programs for climate change adaptation, and technical cultivation support for female farmers. These initiatives aim to enhance resilience to climate change and promote gender equality within the regional coffee value chain.
“Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer, yet increasing value addition and improving farmer incomes remain significant challenges for the country’s agricultural sector,” JICA noted.
