On the morning of October 2nd, Honda Vietnam, in collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), launched a program to donate 1.8 million high-quality helmets to first-grade students nationwide. This initiative aims to foster a culture of helmet use among young children, ensuring their safety on the roads.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motor Japan, emphasized, “Our primary goal is to instill the habit of wearing certified helmets among motorcycle users in Vietnam. These helmets, donated by Honda, will become trusted companions, safeguarding students on every journey.”
Mr. Le Kim Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, highlighted the prevalence of children not wearing helmets while riding motorcycles. He stressed that a certified helmet can save lives. The program aims to distribute 1.8 million helmets, encourage 100% parental commitment to helmet use for their children, and increase the helmet-wearing rate among children to 90% during the 2025–2026 academic year.
The slogans “Helmet for Your Child – A Parent’s Love” and “Wear a Helmet, Protect Yourself” serve as powerful reminders for parents and children, respectively, to prioritize safety, Mr. Thanh added.

Representing the MOET, Mr. Nguyen Xuan An Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Students and Pupils Affairs, acknowledged the program’s success, with nearly 12 million helmets distributed to date. This has significantly increased helmet usage among students from 37% to 89% over seven years. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continue collaborating on educational programs promoting safe traffic participation skills from preschool to university levels, aiming for a comprehensive shift in awareness and behavior.
During the event, Honda Vietnam, the National Traffic Safety Committee, and the MOET signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two key objectives: ensuring all first-grade students receive certified helmets and enhancing traffic safety training for students and parents. This academic year, over 1.8 million students and 350,000 parents are expected to participate in these training activities.
This initiative contributes to the Vietnamese government’s goal of “ZERO road traffic fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global vision of “ZERO traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles” by 2050.
