As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, stalls are slashing prices to just 100,000 VND for 3 mooncakes.
According to VTC News, despite the imminent Mid-Autumn Festival, Hanoi’s mooncake market remains unusually quiet, with stalls sparsely visited. This is attributed to tightened consumer spending and recent flooding caused by Typhoon Bualoi, dampening the festive spirit.

Mooncake stalls remain quiet as the Mid-Autumn Festival nears.

This year, consumers favor affordable mooncakes, while premium options cater primarily to affluent buyers.
Retail prices for branded mooncakes range from 60,000 to 100,000 VND per 150g cake. Premium gift sets, priced between 2 to 5.8 million VND, include custom packaging, alcohol, or tea.
Many stalls now display discounted mooncakes, with some offering drastic reductions to 100,000 VND for 3 cakes. Sellers assure these are “company policies,” with expiration dates extending to November 2025, guaranteeing freshness.

Supermarkets and convenience stores like Winmart and MM Mega Market are also offering extensive mooncake promotions.
From October 1st to 6th, Winmart offers a 50% discount on various mooncakes. 100g cakes are reduced from 55,000 to 27,500 VND, while 4-cake boxes drop from 220,000 to 110,000 VND. Similarly, 150g cakes are priced at 37,500 VND, with 4-cake boxes at 150,000 VND, down from 300,000 VND.

MM Mega Market provides 10-15% discounts on a variety of mooncakes.

Sales staff reveal a 30-35% drop in mooncake sales compared to last year, with most purchases occurring recently.
“Sales have been slow since early September, with daily revenues barely reaching a few million VND. Customers mostly buy affordable options, rarely inquiring about premium cakes,” shared a salesperson on Lac Trung Street.
A stall manager attributes the decline to oversaturation, with 5-6 stalls per street fragmenting demand. Consumers are also cutting non-essential spending.
“Some stalls are already discounting to clear stock. We’ve returned many near-expiry cakes to suppliers,” the manager added.
