In a recent discussion with the Government Electronic Newspaper regarding the reported issues on the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the project investor, stated: The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway was recently opened for technical traffic to temporarily serve commuters during the April 30 holiday, aiming to alleviate congestion on Ho Chi Minh City’s inner roads.

Addressing Weak Foundation and Monitoring Subsidence

The section between Km14+380 and Km14+385, highlighted by drivers, is currently being treated for weak soil conditions using two distinct technologies. This area is under continuous subsidence monitoring. Consequently, this segment is still under evaluation by the contractor and has not yet been accepted for final completion.

“Following the driver reports acknowledged and published by the Government Information, we instructed the contractor to clean the road surface and implement subsidence compensation measures today, October 4,” a VEC representative stated.

Previously, on October 2, 2025, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) announced that they had reviewed a clip posted on a social media group, which highlighted issues on the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. The clip showed dangerous subsidence creating ridges on the route from Ho Chi Minh City to the Southwest provinces near the QL50 exit.

Upon confirming the accuracy of the public reports, the Traffic Police Department directed the Road Traffic Police Team No. 7 to formally request the Vietnam Road Administration (Ministry of Construction) to promptly rectify the issue. Additionally, they advised drivers to reduce speed when passing through the affected area.

The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, invested by VEC, is part of the North-South Expressway system, spanning 57.8km across Long An (2.7km), Ho Chi Minh City (26.4km), and Dong Nai (28.7km). The total investment is 29,587 billion VND, funded by JICA and ADB loans, state budget contributions, and VEC-arranged capital.

On April 19, VEC opened 18km of the expressway. This segment is part of the 21km Western section, stretching from the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong junction (Km0+600) to the Nguyen Van Tao junction (Km21+850), passing through Ben Luc and Can Giuoc (Long An), and Binh Chanh and Nha Be (Ho Chi Minh City).

The expressway is designed to Type A highway standards (TCVN 5729-1997), featuring four lanes with a design speed of 100 km/h.

To date, nearly 30km of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway has been operational. This marks a significant step for VEC to complete the entire 57.8km route by 2026.

The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway connects Ben Luc District (Long An) with Long Thanh District (Dong Nai). Once fully operational, it will enhance connectivity between the Western and Eastern Southern regions without passing through central Ho Chi Minh City, reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs, and fostering economic development, investment, and tourism in Dong Nai, Long An, and Ho Chi Minh City.
