On April 13, 2022, Vietnam’s Food Safety Authority (under the Ministry of Health) fined Hoang Huong Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company 65 million VND for misleading advertisements claiming their Hoang Huong Joint Support Supplement had drug-like healing properties. Additionally, the company failed to include the mandatory disclaimer: “This product is not a medicine and does not replace medical treatment.”
Less than a month later, on May 11, 2022, two products—Hoang Huong Joint Support Supplement and Hoang Huong Blood Activator—faced further penalties for advertisements exaggerating their actual benefits. Videos on Facebook and YouTube were deemed highly misleading, leading consumers to mistake them for medical treatments.
Hoang Huong Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company is responsible for declaring and distributing these products.
Advertising violations persisted into 2025. In April, the Food Safety Authority requested action against the “Authentic Hoang Huong Meli Pharmaceuticals” fanpage, where an individual promoted Morimon Horse Bone Extract Powder with claims misleadingly suggesting it was a cure.
Before charges were filed, Hoang Huong’s brand dominated social media with viral ads, amassing millions of views.
Although violating links were removed upon detection, the same individual reappeared within a month, promoting multiple products on the “Hoang Huong Meli Pharmaceuticals” fanpage, again breaching functional food advertising regulations.
On October 3, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Agency charged Hoang Thi Huong (38), known as Hoang Huong, with violating accounting regulations under Article 221 of the Penal Code, causing severe consequences.
Five additional suspects were charged with the same offense.
Hoang Thi Huong allegedly heads an ecosystem of 18 companies, 25 business households, and 44 individuals, specializing in health supplements, functional foods, and other products.
To evade taxes, Huong is accused of directing employees to disperse revenue across individuals and businesses within her network, circumventing proper tax declaration and payment.
