Apple Adds iPhone 11 Pro Max to Vintage Device List. According to Apple’s policy, a product is classified as vintage when it has been discontinued for 5 to 7 years. During this period, users can still receive support for parts and repairs for up to 2 years, depending on inventory availability.

Launched in 2019, the iPhone 11 Pro Max made history as the first iPhone to feature a triple-camera system. In Vietnam, while no longer officially distributed, it remains popular in the second-hand market, with prices starting at around $300 for the 64GB model.

The inclusion of the iPhone 11 Pro Max in the vintage list signals that its lifecycle is nearing its end. Users can continue to use it for a few more years, but they’ll face limitations in warranty coverage, parts availability, and software updates.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max’s transition to vintage status comes as no surprise, as Apple has applied this policy to previous iPhone models multiple times.

The iPhone X (2017), released to commemorate Apple’s 10th anniversary, was added to the vintage list in 2022. It introduced the iconic “notch” design and Face ID, marking a significant shift in brand identity.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (2017), launched alongside the iPhone X, joined the vintage list earlier than the 11 Pro Max. Notably, they retained the traditional design with a Home button and Touch ID. The iPhone XS and XS Max (2018) were classified as vintage in 2024 and mid-2025, respectively.

Compared to earlier models, the iPhone 11 Pro Max maintained its appeal longer, thanks to its groundbreaking triple-camera system, superior battery life, and powerful A13 Bionic chip. Even today, many users opt for the 11 Pro Max in the used market due to its stable performance with the latest iOS versions.

However, like other iPhones entering the vintage category, the 11 Pro Max will soon face discontinued software support, limited replacement parts, and reduced warranty coverage. This is a familiar tactic by Apple to encourage users to upgrade to newer iPhone models.

Key Considerations When Buying a Vintage iPhone

Limited Warranty and Repair Services

Vintage devices receive Apple support for repairs and parts for up to 2 years, depending on inventory. After this period, finding genuine replacement parts becomes challenging and more expensive.

Risk of Discontinued Software Updates

While the device may run a few more iOS versions, updates will eventually cease. This can lead to security vulnerabilities, app compatibility issues, and performance degradation.

Aging Battery and Hardware Wear

Vintage iPhones, typically 5–7 years old, often have degraded batteries, screens, cameras, and speakers that may have been repaired. Buyers should thoroughly inspect charge cycles, remaining battery capacity, and component origins.

Risk of Low-Quality Devices

The used market is rife with refurbished, shell-swapped, or iCloud-locked devices. Prioritize purchasing from reputable sellers with clear warranty policies rather than unverified sources.

Pricing and Upgrade Considerations

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is currently priced at around $300 (64GB) in Vietnam. While significantly cheaper than newer models, users should weigh its performance, battery life, and support lifespan against upgrading to an iPhone 13/14/15 for a more sustainable experience.
