Today’s durian prices (October 6th) see a surge as major collection points announce high purchase rates.

Hoa Nắng Collection Point (Dak Lak) offers VIP Durian Dona (Thai, Monthong) at 115,000 – 120,000 VND/kg; Type A at 90,000 – 100,000 VND/kg; and Type B at 20,000 VND less. Ri 6 Dak Lak durian ranges from 33,000 to 48,000 VND/kg.

In the Mekong Delta, their satellite collection point buys Ri 6 Dong Thap durian (formerly Tien Giang area) at 82,000 VND/kg (Type A) and 67,000 VND/kg (Type B).

Ly Phat Collection Point (Dak Lak) purchases Durian Dona at 98,000 – 99,000 VND/kg (Type A), 78,000 – 79,000 VND/kg (Type B), and Type C at 39,000 VND/kg.

Durian season ends in the country’s largest growing region, driving prices up.

Speaking to Bao Nguoi Lao Dong, trader Tran Dang from Dak Lak, specializing in off-grade durian, offers 28,000 – 32,000 VND/kg, while cream durian fetches 12,000 – 17,000 VND/kg.

These prices are 10,000 – 15,000 VND/kg higher than late September.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thai Huyen, CEO of Viet Nong Phat Agricultural Company (Dak Lak), the durian price spike is due to the end of the season and supply shortages. “Currently, only a few late-harvest gardens remain in Dak Lak. The durian season is shifting to Lam Dong and some Mekong Delta provinces,” Ms. Huyen stated.

Mr. Dang Phuoc Nguyen, Secretary-General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, noted that Vietnam is currently the sole global supplier of fresh durian, primarily to China.
