On October 5th, Hanoi People’s Committee and Sun Group officially broke ground on the Hanoi Opera House and Thematic Arts & Culture Park project at Dam Tri Lake, Quang An Peninsula, Tay Ho District.

Spanning 19.1 hectares with a total investment of VND 12,756 billion, this large-scale arts and culture project is fully funded through socialized capital by Sun Group. The Hanoi Opera House is expected to be completed by 2027.

The opera house’s most distinctive feature is its dome architecture, inspired by pearls rising from West Lake’s waters. The ultra-thin, high-strength dome is coated with a material that creates a pearlescent effect, reflecting the lake’s colors throughout the day.

The opera house features two main auditoriums: a 1,797-seat opera hall and a multi-purpose hall with movable seating, accommodating up to 1,430 standing guests and 216 balcony seats for live performances and concerts.

Hanoi Opera House is designed by Italian architectural legend Renzo Piano, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan noted that every major city has an iconic cultural landmark: Sydney has its Opera House, Singapore has Esplanade, and cities like Paris, Milan, London, New York, Berlin, and Los Angeles boast their own renowned theaters.

“We are confident that upon completion, the Hanoi Opera House and Thematic Arts & Culture Park at Quang An Peninsula will transform Hanoi’s cultural landscape, elevating it to a world-class tourism destination,” shared the city’s leadership.
