Anticipating Coffee Prices
Coffee plantation owners are closely monitoring prices as the new harvest approaches. Pricing is a critical factor determining the success of their year-long investment and care.
Domestic coffee prices currently stand at 116,900 VND/kg, a 1.21% increase from last week. This is a positive sign as Vietnam officially enters the 2025-2026 crop year.
Vietnam’s coffee cultivation area now spans approximately 764,400 hectares, a 16,600-hectare increase compared to last year. Over 600,000 hectares are currently yielding harvests, primarily in the Central Highlands. Last season, coffee exports alone generated over $8 billion in revenue.

Expert Insights
In an interview with Bao Nguoi Lao Dong, expert Nguyen Quang Binh highlights three positive and two negative factors influencing this season’s coffee prices.
On the positive side, first, the U.S. has lowered and will continue to lower interest rates, reducing capital costs and encouraging investment in coffee markets.
Second, unresolved U.S. countervailing duties will disrupt supply chains, driving prices higher.
Third, reduced available inventories in key consumer markets like Europe, Japan, and the U.S. compared to pre-COVID-19 levels will support coffee prices.
Negatively, most forecasts predict a bumper crop in Vietnam and Brazil, which could increase supply and pressure prices downward.
Additionally, U.S. countervailing duties causing inventory congestion may lead to panic selling if prices drop sharply.
The EU’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is likely to face further delays, meaning it won’t impact coffee prices in the near term.
