Heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Matmo has led to severe flooding in Hanoi, particularly on Thang Long Boulevard, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Vehicles were stranded on Thang Long Boulevard and Tran Duy Hung Street this morning, October 7th, due to the flooding.

Deep floodwaters caused numerous vehicles to stall, exacerbating traffic chaos.

Floodwaters reached nearly half a meter in some areas, severely hindering vehicle movement and causing prolonged congestion.

Traffic near Tay Mo Overpass moved at a snail’s pace due to the flooding.

Motorcyclists were forced to inch forward or even push their bikes through the deep floodwaters.

Several cars stalled on the road, causing severe traffic congestion. The streets turned into rivers after the prolonged rainfall.

“I had to push my motorcycle for over 200 meters to reach the main road this morning. The deep water made movement difficult, and many vehicles stalled, causing prolonged congestion that left everyone exhausted,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, a resident near Tay Mo Overpass.

The severe flooding made drainage efforts urgent. City drainage workers were mobilized to heavily flooded areas to pump water and reduce pressure on the drainage system. However, due to the prolonged heavy rain, the situation could not be resolved immediately, and traffic remained severely affected in many areas.

“On my way to work this morning, the floodwaters on the service road were nearly up to the wheels of my car. Many people had to push their motorbikes, and some cars stalled in the middle of the road. Everyone had to yield to each other to move, and this situation lasted all morning,” said Mr. Le Van Minh from Tay Mo Urban Area.

In addition to Thang Long Boulevard, nearby routes such as National Highway 70 leading to Tay Mo Overpass and the Phu Do area were also affected by flooding, making travel difficult and causing prolonged congestion.

Authorities advised residents to avoid flooded areas to ensure safety.

According to forecasts, Hanoi will continue to experience scattered showers today, with localized heavy rain.

Residents are advised to monitor traffic updates, avoid deep floodwaters, and take precautions when traveling during prolonged heavy rain.
