Several sections of the La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway, passing through Gian Bi and Nam My villages (formerly Hoa Bac commune, now Hai Van ward, Da Nang City), are showing signs of road deterioration, including cracks, potholes, and subsidence, posing safety risks for vehicles.

The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway exhibits road damage after nearly 3.5 years of operation.

Potholes are densely scattered along a short stretch in Hai Van ward.

On-site observations reveal multiple cracks, potholes, and peeled asphalt layers, creating deep holes on the road surface. Some areas show prolonged subsidence, particularly on the lane edges frequently used by heavy vehicles.

Extended cracks and subsidence compromise vehicle safety.

The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Unit acknowledged the damage and is collaborating with Road Management Unit III (Vietnam Road Administration) for repairs, scheduled to begin this week.

Officials attribute the damage to recent heavy rains and storms, which weakened the road structure, causing localized peeling.

The La Son – Tuy Loan Expressway began operations in April 2022.

Workers are expanding the damaged section to a 4-lane highway.

The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway connects Hue City and Da Nang City.

The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway is part of the La Son – Tuy Loan route, linking Hue City and Da Nang City. Managed by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Unit, construction began in late 2013.

By April 2022, Phase 1 was completed, opening the 66 km La Son – Hoa Lien section with a 12-meter-wide, 2-lane road. The speed limit is 60-80 km/h.

Phase 2 is underway, expanding the road to 4 lanes to meet highway standards. The 11.5 km Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan segment, started in September 2023, opened for technical traffic in August, connecting to the La Son – Hoa Lien route.
