Iconic Landmark Propels Vung Tau into the Global Spotlight

Some places are defined by the passage of time, marked by the rhythm of waves and the ancient lighthouses that stand as sentinels of the sea. The Vung Tau Lighthouse, perched atop Tao Phung Mountain (Small Mountain), was built by the French in 1862, standing nearly 150 meters above sea level. As Vietnam’s oldest lighthouse, it is not only a symbol of the city but also a trusted companion for sailors, deeply intertwined with the lives of Vung Tau’s residents. It’s a must-visit destination for travelers, often recommended as a top attraction in the area.

In its new context, following its integration into the expanded Ho Chi Minh City, experts believe Vung Tau needs additional “lighthouses” to set sail into the global arena and solidify its position on the international tourism map. These could include world-class entertainment complexes, mega infrastructure projects, or urban developments seamlessly integrated with tourism.

During the most recent holiday, National Day on September 2nd, Vung Tau welcomed over 230,000 visitors, drawn by exciting events and the allure of the Tam Thang Tower.

Tam Thang Tower, the centerpiece of Tam Thang Square, is a meticulously designed architectural marvel poised to become Vung Tau’s new iconic landmark. Comprised of 143 pillars arranged in ascending order toward the sea, the tower’s design draws inspiration from the powerful image of three ship bows soaring majestically, symbolizing the historical mission of protecting the islands and seas since the reign of King Gia Long.

At night, the tower transforms into a dazzling spectacle with vibrant LED lights, creating an enchanting artistic atmosphere. Since early September 2025, Tam Thang Tower has become a viral check-in spot for Ho Chi Minh City’s youth. Its success highlights that, alongside established attractions like Bai Truoc, Bai Sau, the Lighthouse, Christ Statue, and Bach Dinh, Vung Tau’s tourism thrives on innovative experiences that enrich its offerings and attract visitors from all corners.

If Tam Thang Tower, crafted by Sun Group in collaboration with Italian architect Oliviero Godi, is hailed as the “cultural lighthouse” ushering in a new era for Vung Tau tourism, then Sun World Vung Tau and the 37-trillion-VND Blanca City project on Bai Sau embody the ambition to pioneer world-class entertainment and multifunctional urban living, elevating Vung Tau’s tourism standards.

Slated to open in early 2026, the 15-hectare multipurpose water park by Sun Group will feature 20 cutting-edge water attractions. Inspired by the waterways of the Mekong Delta, the park is divided into four thematic zones: “Life on Southern Waterways,” “Influence of the Maritime Silk Road,” “Remnants of Oc Eo – Funan Civilization,” and “Southern Tropical Rainforest.” Sun World Vung Tau promises not only unique experiences for residents and tourists but also a vibrant boost to the entire region.

Sun World Vung Tau is part of Blanca City, the premier “all-in-one” coastal urban development in the South. Unlike traditional gated resorts, Blanca City functions as a mini-city with international 5-star hotels, beachfront shopping centers, integrated schools, hospitals, sports facilities, centralized parking, and six luxury apartment towers alongside beachfront villas and townhouses.

This promises a wealth of high-end accommodations in one of Vietnam’s most vibrant tourist destinations. Within Blanca’s newly launched towers and future villas, residents and visitors enjoy exclusive amenities within a few hundred meters, enabling seamless living, relaxation, connection, and work. Its diverse, late-night operational amenities set Blanca City apart as a rare “sleepless” destination in Southern Vietnam’s tourism landscape.

Infrastructure Breakthroughs Open Doors to Prosperity

Vung Tau’s new momentum is fueled by strategic infrastructure. The Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway significantly reduces travel time from Ho Chi Minh City, making weekend getaways to Bai Sau a breeze in under an hour. Additionally, the expansion of National Highway 51, the Vung Tau – Binh Thuan coastal road, and the upcoming Long Thanh International Airport will position Vung Tau as a key regional air hub, bringing millions of international visitors closer.

Most recently, Ho Chi Minh City has proposed a Can Gio – Vung Tau sea-crossing bridge, another critical connection promising explosive growth for the region. With these “aerial highways” and “coastal expressways,” Vung Tau is poised to become a global destination.

Infrastructure breakthroughs elevate Vung Tau to international coastal city status

Once known for short trips, Vung Tau is now envisioned as a global coastal city where culture, tourism, and investment opportunities converge. Under the Southeast Region Strategy, Vung Tau is designated as Ho Chi Minh City’s “seaport gateway,” serving as a hub for international cargo and tourists. This land is undergoing unprecedented transformation, ready to welcome global tourists and investors with open arms.
