Unlock Affordable Housing: Qualify for Social Housing with a 20km+ Commute

Individuals who own their homes but reside more than 20km from their workplace and at least 10km from social housing projects are now eligible to purchase social housing under the new regulations set by the People’s Committee of Hue City.

On October 7th, the People’s Committee of Hue City announced a new decision outlining eligibility for social housing support. Individuals who own property located more than 20km from their workplace, or more than 10km from a social housing project, may now qualify to purchase or rent-to-own social housing within Hue City. This policy aligns with Clause 2, Article 9 of Resolution No. 201/2025/QH15 dated May 29, 2025, issued by the National Assembly on pilot mechanisms and policies for social housing development.

Hue residents with privately owned homes located 20km or more from their workplace are eligible to purchase social housing.

To qualify, the distance from the social housing project to the workplace must be shorter than the distance from the individual’s current residence to their workplace. Additionally, the selected housing project must not be located within the same administrative ward (post-merger) as the individual’s owned property.

Distances between residences, workplaces, and social housing projects will be determined using the shortest route via motorcycle, as calculated by Google Maps.

Ward-level People’s Committees are responsible for verifying eligible cases. The Hue Department of Construction will lead and coordinate with relevant departments and local authorities to implement guidelines. Social housing project developers will receive applications, verify eligibility, and compile lists of qualified buyers and rent-to-own applicants in accordance with regulations.

This decision takes effect immediately and will remain valid until May 31, 2030.
