On the morning of October 8th, the Hanoi People’s Committee officially launched Component Project 2, focusing on the construction of the Thuong Cat Bridge and its connecting roads.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Ngo Ngoc Van, Director of the Project Management Unit for Transport Infrastructure Investment in Hanoi, stated that the Thuong Cat Bridge is a strategic investment aimed at progressively enhancing the city’s transportation framework as per the master plan.

The main bridge structure features a cable-stayed design.

“Spanning over 5 kilometers, the project includes a 780-meter cable-stayed main bridge with a width of 35 meters, accommodating 8 lanes. The total investment exceeds 7.3 trillion VND, funded by the city’s budget, with completion expected by 2027.

The project is executed by a consortium comprising Dinh An Group Co., Ltd., Truong Son Construction Corporation, Deo Ca Group JSC, Construction and Investment Company 492, Thanh Huy Group JSC, and North-Central Infrastructure Construction JSC,” Mr. Van detailed.

Mr. Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, highlighted that the Thuong Cat Bridge is the sixth bridge over the Red River to commence construction in 2025.

Thuong Cat Bridge is the sixth Red River crossing to begin construction in 2025.

According to Mr. Tuan, this project plays a pivotal role in advancing the city’s transportation infrastructure, linking the northern region of the Red River with Hanoi’s central areas. It significantly contributes to the completion of the 3.5 Ring Road, enhancing connectivity between the northwestern sector and the urban core. Additionally, it helps distribute traffic load from the existing Ring Road 3.

The Thuong Cat Bridge originates at Km3+504, intersecting with Ky Vu Road in Thuong Cat Ward, and terminates at Km8+731, connecting with National Highway 23B in Thien Loc Commune.

Constructed with reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete, the bridge features a cable-stayed main structure. The total length of the bridge and its approaches is 5.226 kilometers, including 1.321 kilometers of approach roads and a 3.904-kilometer bridge, with the main span stretching 780 meters.

Upon completion, the bridge will support 8 lanes (6 for motor vehicles and 2 for non-motorized traffic), with the main bridge width at 35 meters and the approach bridges at 31 meters. The southern approach in Bac Tu Liem District features a typical cross-section of 60 meters (6 motor vehicle lanes + 2 non-motorized lanes on the main route and 2 parallel roads), while the northern approach in Dong Anh District has a 50-meter cross-section (4 motor vehicle lanes + 2 parallel roads).
