How Hanoi’s Half-Century-Old Drainage Company Operates: Generating Nearly VND 447 Billion in Revenue

Hanoi Drainage One Member LLC, headquartered at 65 Van Ho 3, Hanoi, boasts a charter capital of 459 billion VND. Established in 1973 as the Drainage Team under Hanoi City, the company transitioned to a One Member LLC model in 1991. Since then, it has been the leading public utility enterprise in urban drainage management for the capital.

As per its website, the company is responsible for operating and maintaining the inner-city drainage system, focusing on flood mitigation and urban environmental improvement.

The company comprises 11 subsidiaries, including Drainage Enterprises 1–8 and specialized units. These entities handle system maintenance, flood control, and the management of pumping stations and underground drains across Hanoi.

Additionally, the company has expanded into urban infrastructure consulting, surveying, design, and construction, along with environmental sanitation and wastewater treatment services.

The 2025 semi-annual financial report reveals an average daily revenue of 2.5 billion VND. Drainage system maintenance accounts for the majority at 427 billion VND, with construction and services contributing approximately 20 billion VND.

Gross profit reached 36.5 billion VND, a 20% increase year-over-year, after deducting COGS. Administrative expenses rose 20% to 18.3 billion VND, while selling costs, though tripled to 165 million VND, remain minimal relative to operations.

As of June 30, 2025, total assets grew by over 110 billion VND to 1,407 billion VND. Bank deposits increased nearly 1.5 times to 61 billion VND. Given its public utility nature, the company has no bank loans, with liabilities of 954 billion VND primarily comprising obligations to clients, employees, and internal welfare funds.
