Recently, the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office published an industrial property gazette featuring a car design registered under VinFast’s name.

This is a high-ground-clearance vehicle with a unique design, never before produced or seemingly unveiled. The car boasts a large front grille, suggesting it’s powered by an internal combustion engine.

According to the gazette, the design was created by three Italian designers: Bonzanigo Carlo Alessandro Tullio Maria, Borgogno Luca, and Piguzzi Matteo. All are affiliated with the renowned Italian design studio Pininfarina, known for its long-standing collaboration with Ferrari.

Pininfarina has a close relationship with VinFast, having designed several models, including the VinFast Lux A2.0, Lux SA2.0, and the premium electric vehicles VF 8 and VF 9.

The published design reveals two variants with minor exterior differences, noticeable in the grille, stylized V-shaped daytime running lights, and rear logo.

Following the gazette’s publication, many speculated that this car would soon enter production, suggesting VinFast was returning to internal combustion engines. However, these assumptions are unfounded upon closer examination of the gazette’s details.

The design was submitted in 2017 and only recently published after receiving protection confirmation. This means the design was filed during VinFast’s early days (2017), before the decision to halt gasoline vehicle production (2022).

Currently, all VinFast vehicles—from motorcycles to buses—are electric. The company’s production systems and assembly lines are optimized for electric vehicles, making internal combustion engine production impractical.

Thus, it’s highly unlikely this model or any internal combustion vehicle will be produced at VinFast’s current facilities.
