The highly anticipated Toyota Veloz Hybrid is set to debut in Indonesia, as confirmed by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN). Speaking to the press in Karawang, West Java, Bob Azam, Vice President of TMMIN, stated, “Everything is ready, we’re just awaiting the official launch.” However, he declined to reveal the exact date.

According to data from Samsat DKI Jakarta, a new vehicle code “W102RE” has surfaced, featuring two variants: 1.5Q HV CVT and 1.5Q HV CVT TSS. Indonesian media speculates this could be the Toyota Veloz (known as Veloz Cross in Vietnam), equipped with a hybrid powertrain, potentially named the Toyota Veloz GR HEV. This aligns with Toyota’s electrification strategy, which includes plans to introduce more xEV models for the mass market.

It remains unclear whether this is a facelift or simply an upgrade with additional engine options. The “GR” in the name suggests a sportier variant.

Additionally, Toyota Indonesia is reportedly finalizing a battery assembly line to support future hybrid models. By August 2025, hybrids accounted for 56% of Toyota’s sales in Indonesia, highlighting the technology’s rapid growth in the region.

In Vietnam, the Toyota Veloz Cross is currently imported from Indonesia and lacks a hybrid variant. However, Toyota Vietnam’s lineup is increasingly embracing hybrid technology with models like the Corolla Cross, Camry, Corolla Altis, and Yaris Cross. The impending launch of the Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia is a positive sign, suggesting it may soon arrive in Vietnam.
The Veloz Cross’s direct competitor, the Mitsubishi Xpander, already offers a hybrid version in Thailand and Indonesia, though it’s not yet available in Vietnam. If Toyota introduces the Veloz Cross Hybrid promptly, it could gain a significant competitive edge, narrowing the sales gap with Mitsubishi’s segment leader.
