BYD has officially unveiled the Seal 05 DM-i 2026 in China, boasting an impressive upgrade in electric range from 55 km to 128 km on a single charge. Coupled with a total range of 2,000 km on a full tank and charge, this model sets a new benchmark for plug-in hybrid efficiency. The vehicle retains its sleek “Ocean Aesthetics” design, with dimensions measuring 4,780 x 1,837 x 1,515 mm and a wheelbase of 2,718 mm, ensuring a smooth driving experience with a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters.

Advanced Cockpit Features

Crystal Gear Selector Innovation
The interior features a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, and a 10.1-inch central control screen powered by BYD’s DiLink smart cockpit system. The crystal gear selector replaces the traditional electronic shifter, enhancing the central console’s spaciousness.
Additional amenities include manually adjustable front seats, a 6-speaker sound system, remote vehicle control via smartphone, 6 airbags, a 508-liter trunk, and cruise control for enhanced convenience and safety.

Hybrid Powertrain Efficiency
The 5th-generation DM hybrid system combines a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a front-mounted electric motor. The gasoline engine delivers 99 hp and 126 Nm, while the electric motor provides 161 hp and 210 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds. The 15.87 kWh Blade battery extends the electric range to 128 km, with a combined range of 2,000 km on a full tank and charge, surpassing the distance from Hanoi to Ca Mau (1,940 km). Fuel efficiency remains at 3.08 L/100 km under NEDC standards.
In Vietnam, the BYD Seal 5 (international variant of Seal 05 DM-i) is set to launch on October 17th. However, the updated 2026 model may not be available immediately. The current version, based on the DM-i 4 platform, offers a 1,200 km range on a full tank, competing in the C-segment sedan market against rivals like the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Mazda 3. Notably, the Seal 5 stands out as the only PHEV option in this segment, with the Civic and Corolla Cross offering hybrid variants.
