Ultra-Slim Design and Premium Materials
According to analyst Jeff Pu, one of the standout features of the iPhone Fold will be its frame, crafted from a hybrid material combining titanium and aluminum. This marks a strategic expansion of Apple’s use of premium titanium across its future product lines.
Notably, rumors suggest the device will boast an impressive thinness of just 4.5mm when unfolded, even slimmer than the rumored “iPhone Air.” In terms of design, Bloomberg describes it as resembling two iPhone Airs placed side by side, fueling speculation that the iPhone Air is a prototype for Apple’s foldable phone project.
Touch ID Returns, 48MP Camera
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that Apple may integrate a Touch ID sensor into the power button on the side, rather than adopting under-display fingerprint technology. “Luxshare is expected to be the primary supplier for the power button Touch ID module in the foldable iPhone,” Kuo shared.
In terms of photography, the iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a total of four cameras. The rear camera system includes a 48MP sensor paired with an ultra-wide lens. The absence of a periscope telephoto lens is attributed to space constraints within the foldable design. Additionally, the device will have one camera on the inner screen and one on the outer screen for selfies and video calls.
Nearly Invisible Fold
According to research firm TrendForce, the iPhone Fold will feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display.
The most anticipated feature is the fold-handling technology. Ming-Chi Kuo states that the fold on the iPhone Fold’s screen will be “nearly invisible.” Apple is reportedly developing a special metal frame mechanism beneath the screen to distribute folding pressure, minimizing crease formation—a common issue with current foldable phones.
For connectivity, the device is expected to use Apple’s in-house C2 modem and may eliminate the physical SIM card slot entirely. With these advancements, the iPhone Fold is anticipated to launch in late 2026, poised to redefine the foldable smartphone market.
