Some patches stretch over ten meters, spanning entire lanes. Nguyen Phuc Hanh (30, a ride-hailing driver) frequently travels this route and notes, “Many sections are peeling or eroded. At high speeds, the damage is noticeable and raises safety concerns.”
Near Mui Tau Tunnel, multiple patches cluster together. The Ho Chi Minh Highway Management Board (project investor) attributes the damage to prolonged heavy rains from Typhoon No. 10.
High traffic volumes exacerbate the issue. The route handles not only personal and cargo vehicles but also heavy construction vehicles daily.
Workers are expanding the expressway to four lanes. The route is operational during construction. The Ho Chi Minh Highway Management Board has collaborated with authorities to repair damage and ensure traffic safety.
Consecutive patches mar the surface. The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway will expand to four 22-meter-wide lanes, with speeds up to 80 km/h. This upgrade aims to enhance capacity, safety, and its role in the North-South Eastern Expressway network.
The Ho Chi Minh Highway Management Board will continue inspecting and repairing emerging damage to maintain road integrity.
