According to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), despite unfavorable weather conditions and heavy rainfall, engineering teams have been working tirelessly in shifts to install the primary and secondary radar surveillance systems at Long Thanh International Airport.

“This project holds significant importance, contributing to the development of advanced air traffic management capabilities from the early stages of Long Thanh Airport,” stated a VATM representative.

The radar surveillance system installation project at Long Thanh Airport is led by VATM, which is responsible for organizing, supervising, and coordinating the entire installation process.

The installation process is closely monitored, adhering strictly to VATM regulations and international technical standards. Occupational safety, environmental protection, and quality management are prioritized throughout the project.

During installation, engineers and technical specialists from the Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Center (under the Southern Air Traffic Management Company) are collaborating closely with international experts from Easat Radar Systems Limited (EASAT) to implement critical components of the primary and secondary radar systems.

EASAT, a renowned UK-based radar manufacturer, serves as the contractor for supplying and installing the radar surveillance equipment. With extensive experience in deploying radar systems for major airports worldwide, EASAT provides advanced technological solutions that meet the stringent technical standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring maximum accuracy and reliability in air traffic surveillance at Long Thanh Airport.

Once operational, the primary and secondary radar surveillance system at Long Thanh Airport will play a crucial role in monitoring air traffic over a wide area, enhancing air traffic management and control capabilities in the southern region.

The installation and operation of the Long Thanh radar system not only enhance aviation safety and efficiency but also mark a significant milestone in the development of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, which is executing this critical component of a national key project.

The Long Thanh Airport project spans 5,000 hectares with an estimated investment of over $16 billion. Upon completion, it will be Vietnam’s largest airport.

Long Thanh Airport is poised to become a major aviation hub in Southeast Asia, serving as a gateway for international connectivity and driving Vietnam’s socio-economic development for decades to come.

Regarding project progress, the most critical components have been substantially completed. Contractors have begun installing internal equipment within the terminal.

Joint venture contractors are finalizing the roof structure in the wing and central areas, steel framework for the tunnel section, glass wall installation, stone cladding, and electrical, water supply, drainage, and fire protection systems. Key terminal equipment, including baggage handling, security screening, escalators, moving walkways, and elevators, has been installed.

Contractors are mobilizing all resources, deploying 14,000 workers and 3,000 pieces of equipment in “3 shifts, 4 teams” to ensure Long Thanh Airport is ready for its first technical flight on December 19.
