The document clearly states that, considering the proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Document No. 8764 dated October 1, regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plan for 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the Ministry’s proposal.
The Minister of Home Affairs is responsible for notifying administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and employees as per regulations.
Agencies and units must arrange on-duty staff reasonably to ensure continuous operations and serve the public diligently. Simultaneously, ministries, sectors, and localities must plan and implement specific measures to encourage businesses, organizations, and individuals to proactively engage in production and business activities, ensuring market supply and price stability, thereby promoting economic growth and practicing thrift and waste reduction before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.
Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs submitted Document No. to the Prime Minister, proposing the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plan for 2026.
According to the proposal, civil servants and public employees will have the Lunar New Year holiday from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (December 27, Year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (January 6, Year of the Horse).
Thus, the Lunar New Year holiday for the Year of the Horse will last 9 consecutive days, including 5 days of New Year holiday as per the Labor Code and 4 weekend days.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also proposed that for the 2026 National Day holiday, civil servants and public employees would have September 2, 2026 (Gregorian calendar) off, along with the preceding day, September 1, 2026. Additionally, Monday, August 31, 2026, would be swapped with Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Therefore, civil servants and public employees will enjoy a 5-day continuous holiday from Saturday, August 29, 2026, to Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (including 2 National Day holiday days, 2 weekend days, and 1 swapped day).
