The document clearly states that, considering the proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Document No. 8764 dated October 1, regarding the holiday schedule for the Lunar New Year and National Day in 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved the Ministry’s proposal.
The Minister of Home Affairs is responsible for notifying administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and employees as per regulations.
Agencies and units must arrange on-duty staff reasonably to ensure continuous operations and serve the public diligently. Simultaneously, ministries, sectors, and localities must plan and implement specific measures to encourage businesses, organizations, and individuals to proactively engage in production and business activities, ensuring market supply and price stability. This will contribute to economic growth and promote savings and waste reduction before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.
Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs had submitted Document No. [number not specified] to the Prime Minister proposing the holiday schedule for the Lunar New Year and National Day in 2026.
According to the proposal, civil servants and public employees will have the Lunar New Year holiday from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (December 27, Year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (January 6, Year of the Horse).
Thus, the Lunar New Year holiday for the Year of the Horse will span nine consecutive days, including five days as per the Labor Code and four weekend days.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also proposed that for the National Day holiday in 2026, civil servants and public employees would have September 2, 2026 (Gregorian calendar) off, along with the preceding day, September 1, 2026. Additionally, Monday, August 31, 2026, would be swapped with Saturday, August 22, 2026.
As a result, civil servants and public employees will enjoy a five-day break from Saturday, August 29, 2026, to Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (including two National Day holidays, two weekend days, and one swapped day).
