Chinese automaker Shanghai Benling has officially launched its new budget-friendly scooter, the UA125, in the domestic market. With a suggested retail price of just 5,980 RMB (approximately $310 USD), this model stands as one of the most affordable scooters in China, rivaling the price of the Honda Wave Alpha in Vietnam.

Design-wise, the Shanghai Benling UA125 embraces a retro aesthetic, drawing inspiration from classic Japanese and European scooters. Its compact, well-proportioned body features smooth, flowing lines reminiscent of urban scooters from the 1990s. Despite its budget positioning, the UA125 exudes a timeless, durable charm that appeals to younger riders drawn to vintage styling.

Powering the UA125 is a 123.8cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This unit delivers 9.1 hp at 7,500 rpm and 9.8 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, enabling a top speed of approximately 56 mph. Remarkably fuel-efficient at just 2.3 L/100 km, a full tank allows for up to 155 miles of range—an impressive feat for an entry-level scooter.

The braking system mirrors that of the Honda Vision, featuring a front disc brake and rear drum brake. While lacking ABS, the Combined Braking System (CBS) ensures balanced stopping power, providing adequate urban safety.

Comfort is prioritized with a plush, sofa-like seat ideal for long rides. Additional features include high-output lighting for enhanced night visibility and a spacious flat floorboard, hallmarks of modern urban scooters.

Practicality shines through with a body guard frame minimizing minor scrape damage and a large under-seat compartment accommodating helmets, rain gear, or small bags—ideal for daily commuting and errands.

Combining classic design, essential features, and an ultra-low price, the Shanghai Benling UA125 emerges as a compelling choice for budget-conscious Chinese consumers. It underscores the brand’s strategy to expand its footprint in the fiercely competitive affordable scooter segment.
