International customers can now effortlessly make payments in Vietnam by simply scanning the QR code provided by National Citizen Commercial Joint Stock Bank (NCB), eliminating the need to exchange foreign currency or carry cash throughout their travel or business trips.

Cross-Border Payments with Just a QR Code

NCB is among the first banks in Vietnam to partner with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) to implement this innovative solution. With this feature, customers from countries within NAPAS’s VietQRGlobal network can use their local banking apps or payment platforms to scan NCB’s QR codes in Vietnam when shopping, dining, or using services. Transactions are automatically converted at the current exchange rate.

NCB pioneers cross-border QR code payment solutions

The entire payment process is completed directly on the international customer’s banking app. The system automatically processes transactions, converts currencies, and records payments instantly. This solution offers a seamless, transparent, and secure payment experience, while enabling Vietnamese merchants to easily serve international tourists and boost spending from global visitors.

Currently, international customers from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and soon China, South Korea, and Singapore, can scan QR codes to pay for goods and services at NCB’s partner merchants in Vietnam. Moving forward, the bank will collaborate with NAPAS and partners to expand payment connectivity to more countries, aiming for a global payment network. Simultaneously, NCB is finalizing connections to allow Vietnamese customers using the NCB iziMobile app to pay directly at millions of QR-enabled locations abroad.

Implementing QR code payments for international customers in Vietnam not only enhances convenience for tourists but also supports domestic businesses and merchants in expanding their global customer reach. This solution drives cross-border commerce, tourism, and consumption, creating new opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to grow and collaborate.

In recent years, Vietnam’s payment infrastructure has grown significantly, paving the way for the surge in digital payment methods. The latest data from the State Bank of Vietnam shows that in the first seven months of 2025, QR code transactions increased by 66.7% in volume and 159.6% in value compared to the same period last year. Additionally, 87% of adults now have bank accounts, and many financial institutions report over 90% of transactions conducted digitally—highlighting a clear shift in consumer payment behavior.

NCB’s expansion of cross-border QR code payments marks a new milestone in its digital banking journey, enabling international customers to pay effortlessly at domestic merchants while offering Vietnamese users a modern payment experience aligned with global trends. This underscores NCB’s vision to create a comprehensive “pocket bank,” where all financial needs—from transactions and savings to investments and cross-border payments—are integrated into a single, user-friendly platform.

Previously, NCB iziMobile introduced several standout features, including: online account opening via the VNeID electronic identification system; instant credit card issuance within 3 minutes without paperwork, with cards available at kiosks; attractive online savings rates; in-app flight and Sun World ticket bookings; and exclusive priority access at Sun World Ba Na Hills and Sun World Ba Den Mountain. NCB also launched the free iziBox payment solution, allowing merchants to receive transaction success notifications via in-store speakers, helping small businesses manage cash flow efficiently, reduce errors, and cut operational costs.
