Cross-Border Payments with Just a QR Code

NCB is among the first banks in Vietnam to partner with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) to implement this innovative solution. With this feature, customers from countries within NAPAS’s VietQRGlobal international payment network can use their local banking apps or payment platforms to scan NCB’s QR codes in Vietnam when shopping, dining, or using services. Transactions are automatically converted at the current exchange rate.

NCB pioneers cross-border QR code payment solutions

The entire payment process is completed within the customer’s international banking app, with the system automatically processing transactions, converting currencies, and recording payments in real time. This solution offers a fast, transparent, and secure payment experience, while enabling Vietnamese merchants to seamlessly serve international tourists and boost spending from global visitors.

Currently, international customers from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and soon China, South Korea, and Singapore, can scan QR codes to pay for goods and services at NCB’s partner merchant locations. Moving forward, the bank will collaborate with NAPAS and other partners to expand payment connectivity to more countries, aiming for a global payment network. Simultaneously, NCB is finalizing integrations to allow Vietnamese customers using the NCB iziMobile app to make direct payments at millions of QR-enabled locations abroad.

The rollout of QR code payments for international customers in Vietnam not only enhances convenience for tourists but also empowers local businesses and merchants to expand their global customer reach. This solution drives cross-border commerce, tourism, and consumption, creating new opportunities for collaboration and growth among Vietnamese enterprises.

Leading the Global Digital Payment Trend

In recent years, Vietnam’s payment infrastructure has seen significant growth, paving the way for the surge in digital payment methods. The latest data from the State Bank of Vietnam reveals that in the first seven months of 2025, QR code transactions increased by 66.7% in volume and 159.6% in value year-over-year. Additionally, 87% of adults now have bank accounts, and many financial institutions report that over 90% of transactions are conducted digitally—a clear indication of shifting consumer payment behaviors.

This initiative underscores NCB’s vision to create a comprehensive “pocket bank,” where all financial needs—from transactions and savings to investments and cross-border payments—are seamlessly integrated into a single, user-friendly platform.
