Despite the traditional avoidance of major purchases like cars during the 7th lunar month, which extends into late September, the Vietnamese automotive market defied expectations with a remarkable surge in September 2025. This period, typically slow, saw a significant uptick in sales, challenging previous forecasts.
Data from key industry players such as the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), TC Group, and VinFast highlights this trend. VAMA reported a total market sales of 30,688 vehicles in September 2025, marking an 18% increase compared to August.
VinFast led the charge with 13,914 electric vehicles sold in September, a 27.3% rise from August. This brings their year-to-date total to 103,884 units—an unprecedented milestone in Vietnam’s automotive history. VinFast’s dominance continued as it secured multiple spots in the top 10 best-selling cars, with the newly launched VinFast Limo Green selling 2,120 units in its debut month, ranking fourth overall.
TC Group’s Hyundai brand maintained its growth trajectory, selling 4,296 units in September, a 16.1% increase from August. Over the first three quarters of 2025, Hyundai sold 35,802 vehicles, though none made it to the top 10 in September.
Another standout performer was the Toyota Yaris Cross, with sales soaring 94.1% to 1,964 units, securing the fifth position in the market.
