The People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province has recently announced the implementation of several measures to enhance passenger service quality at Cam Ranh International Airport, following a report from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism highlighting existing challenges.

According to the department, in the first seven months of 2025, Cam Ranh International Airport welcomed over 4.2 million passengers, a 2.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The total number of flights (round trips) reached 24,632, including 14,827 international flights with more than 2.7 million passengers, marking a 4.3% rise.

Currently, four domestic airlines operate routes to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Da Nang, with an average frequency of 46 flights per day. Twenty-two international airlines are active at Cam Ranh, focusing on markets such as South Korea, China, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Central Asia, with approximately 70 flights daily. In August 2025 alone, the peak saw around 40 international arrivals per day.

Statistics show that South Korean visitors account for 55%, Chinese for 24%, Russians and CIS countries for 18%, and the remaining 3% from Thailand, Malaysia, and other markets. Major operating airlines include Jeju Air, T’way Air, Korean Air, Air Busan, Vietjet Air, Vietnam Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and China Southern Airlines.

However, congestion during immigration procedures persists during peak hours, particularly for charter flights from South Korea and China. Many travel agencies have reported prolonged processing times, affecting tour schedules. International baggage handling is also frequently delayed due to insufficient conveyor belts and customs inspection staff.

Infrastructure issues remain: domestic baggage conveyors often malfunction, departure gate areas are narrow, and multilingual signage is lacking. At night, taxi and shuttle services are not strictly monitored, and the parking area still has makeshift stalls and litter, detracting from the visitor experience.

The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has urged the provincial People’s Committee to coordinate with the Ministry of Construction and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to expedite approval of the adjusted master plan for Cam Ranh Airport for 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050. This includes expanding runways, aprons, upgrading Terminals T1 and T2, and constructing a new Terminal T3.

In response, Mr. Nguyen Long Bien, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, has instructed Cam Ranh International Airport to collaborate with relevant units such as the Aviation Port Authority, Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company, Border Police, Customs Area XIII, and the International Health Quarantine Center. They are to propose solutions to reduce processing times, allocate additional staff, and install more inspection counters and multilingual signage.

The provincial government has also requested that Customs Area XIII enhance staffing for immigration and customs during peak periods.
