Unlocking High-Tech Shipbuilding Partnerships Between Italian and Vietnamese Enterprises

On the morning of October 15th, at the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco della Seta and leaders of the Fincantieri shipbuilding group. The meeting focused on exploring investment and cooperation opportunities in high-tech shipbuilding within Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha commended the vibrant and comprehensive activities of the Italian Embassy in Vietnam, emphasizing Vietnam’s potential to develop its shipbuilding industry, particularly in coastal areas like Vung Tau.

Despite experiencing ups and downs, Vietnam is now focusing on modern, internationally standardized vessels through its maritime fleet recovery and development strategy.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that Fincantieri’s high-tech vessels are not only suitable for the Vietnamese market but also meet global demands. The Vietnamese government will provide maximum support for Fincantieri’s projects and other foreign enterprises aiming to invest in sustainable, green, and advanced shipbuilding in Vietnam.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for his time, Ambassador Marco della Seta and Fincantieri’s representatives noted that the company employs 20,000 workers across shipbuilding, design, repairs, and related services.

In Vietnam, Fincantieri operates the VARD Vung Tau Shipyard, specializing in designing and building offshore and specialized vessels.

Fincantieri aims to expand its production capacity and adopt cutting-edge technology to build vessels for key sectors such as offshore wind farm construction, ASEAN submarine cable installation, and the oil and gas industry.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha stressed the Vietnamese government’s support for high-tech shipbuilding collaborations, while emphasizing the importance of local planning, environmental protection, and site selection to balance industrial growth with Vung Tau’s green tourism vision.

This collaboration opens long-term opportunities for Italian and Vietnamese enterprises in high-tech shipbuilding, contributing to sustainable maritime economic development.
