On October 19th, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Diệu My, owner of a Thai jackfruit purchasing stall in Cái Bè commune, Đồng Tháp province, reported a price drop of 1,000-2,000 VND/kg for Thai jackfruits compared to the previous week.

Specifically, large cream jackfruits are purchased at 22,000 VND/kg, and second-grade cream jackfruits at 12,000 VND/kg (Grade B). Large fallen cream jackfruits are bought at 19,000 VND/kg, and small ones at 9,000 VND/kg (Grade C). Market jackfruits and small jackfruits (Grade D) are priced at 3,000 VND/kg. Bulk purchases of 5 fruits/kg or more are 10,000 VND/kg, and fallen jackfruits are 5,000 VND/kg.

Thai jackfruits are typically categorized into 8 grades by traders.

Mr. Bùi Văn Nam, from Mỹ Thuận commune, Vĩnh Long province, shared, “Currently, traders buy jackfruits in bulk at 10,000 VND/kg, which only covers production costs of 9,000-10,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, they scrutinize the fruits, only selecting the most beautiful, round, and weighty ones for export at good prices. Substandard fruits are sold domestically at lower prices.”

A stall owner specializing in Thai jackfruit purchases in Bình Minh ward, Vĩnh Long province, explained that traders classify Thai jackfruits into 8 grades: top-grade, second-grade, large cream, small cream, large fallen cream, small fallen cream, market jackfruits, and small jackfruits (Grade D).

Top-grade and second-grade jackfruits are considered Grade A (highest quality). Large cream jackfruits (9 kg/fruit or more) and small cream jackfruits (7-9 kg/fruit) follow. Large and small fallen cream jackfruits (6 kg/fruit or less) are next, with market jackfruits and small jackfruits classified as Grade D.

Cream jackfruits are of medium quality, graded based on size and fruit quality. They are the most commonly purchased by stalls and traders, second only to Grade A, as they provide a stable and primary supply for the market.
