The Can Tho Oncology Hospital project, with a total investment of over VND 1.7 trillion and a capacity of 500 beds, is poised to become the most modern oncology hospital in the Mekong Delta region. Construction began in 2017, with an expected completion date of late 2020. However, by 2022, the project had to be halted, leaving over 80% of the construction work unfinished. Many sections have been abandoned, with weeds overtaking the site.

Meanwhile, the old facility of the Can Tho Oncology Hospital continues to struggle, accommodating a large number of patients from Can Tho and neighboring provinces in deteriorating and cramped conditions.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged relevant agencies to expedite the completion of procedures following the inspection conclusion, aiming to restart the hospital project as an emergency initiative.
“Residents of the Mekong Delta have to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment, which is extremely challenging and costly. This is a key project that cannot remain stagnant as it is now,” the Prime Minister emphasized, setting a completion deadline for 2026.

As part of the “Construction of at least 1 million social housing units from 2021 to 2030” scheme, Can Tho City has been assigned a target of 16,900 units. As of October 15, the city has initiated 10 projects, completing 3 with 2,252 units. In 2025, an additional 1,073 units are expected to be completed, reaching 77% of the target. The remaining 324 units will be finalized in the second quarter of 2026. Thus, from 2021 to 2025, the city will have completed a total of 3,649 units.
The Nam Long 2 project, with a total investment of VND 1.253 trillion and 1,601 units, will serve approximately 4,800 people. Currently, 930 units have been completed, and the remaining 671 units, already sold, are under construction, priced at VND 15.8 million per square meter.

During the inspection, the Prime Minister commended Can Tho and the developer for their efforts, acknowledging the significant demand for social housing. While welcoming the commitment to shorten the timeline, he stressed the importance of maintaining quality and ensuring comprehensive infrastructure for education, healthcare, culture, and sports, allowing residents to access services comparable to those in commercial housing areas.
At the Hung Phu Ward Administrative Service Center, the Prime Minister praised the strict adherence to procedures for receiving and processing administrative documents with transparency and no delays. The use of QR codes for online procedure tracking has made it convenient for citizens to access services, reducing costs and time.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the transition to a two-tier local government model must be accompanied by a shift in mindset from “management” to “creation and service.” He instructed Can Tho City to deploy flexible, responsible, and dedicated staff to guide and serve citizens and businesses more effectively.
