Vietjet’s “Female General” Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao

Entrepreneur Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vice Chairwoman of HDBank’s Board of Directors, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, and founder of VietJet airline, is a frequent presence on Forbes’ global billionaire list.

According to Forbes’ USD Billionaire List updated as of October 19, 2025 (Vietnam time), based on stock prices and exchange rates, Ms. Thao’s net worth stands at an impressive 4.2 billion USD.

With this wealth, Vietjet’s CEO ranks 961st on the global billionaire list and 2nd among Vietnamese USD billionaires, following Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong.

Ms. Thao’s assets have seen a significant surge since the beginning of 2025, driven by multiple factors, notably the positive performance of VJC shares (Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company).

According to the 6-month 2025 Management Report, as of June 30, 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is a major shareholder, holding over 47.47 million VJC shares, equivalent to 8.02% of the company’s capital.

Based on VJC’s closing price on October 17 (175,000 VND per share), the value of her VJC shares exceeds 8,300 billion VND.

Additionally, several legal entities and individuals associated with Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao also hold substantial VJC shares.

Specifically, as of the end of Q2/2025, HDBank holds 6 million VJC shares (1.01%), and Sunny Investment Company (where Ms. Thao serves as Chairwoman of the Members’ Council) holds over 154.74 million VJC shares (26.16%).

On October 17, the VN-Index dropped 35.66 points (-2.02%), closing at 1,731.19 points. The VN30 group, led by Vingroup’s trio of stocks, experienced declines: VIC fell 4.3% to 204,000 VND per share, VHM dropped 4.9% to 116,000 VND per share, and VRE decreased 5.5% to 41,000 VND per share.

Despite this, these stocks have maintained high levels since early October, significantly boosting both corporate capitalization and shareholder wealth.

Notably, thanks to VIC’s strong performance, Ms. Pham Thu Huong’s net worth has increased significantly, surpassing 1 billion USD.

Specifically, according to the 6-month 2025 Management Report, as of June 30, 2025, Ms. Thu Huong directly owns over 170.6 million VIC shares, valued at more than 34,802 billion VND (based on the October 17 closing price of 204,000 VND per share), equivalent to over 1.3 billion USD.

Ms. Huong’s relative, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup, also holds a substantial number of VIC shares.

As of June 30, 2025, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong directly owns over 449.9 million VIC shares (11.6%). Based on the October 17 closing price, these shares are valued at nearly 91,780 billion VND.

In addition to VIC shares, billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong holds significant stakes in several other multi-billion-dollar enterprises. According to Forbes, his total net worth is 19.1 billion USD (as of October 19, 2025). Currently, the Vingroup Chairman ranks 124th on the global USD billionaire list.
