Abandoned $100 Million Tourism Project Lies Desolate Amidst Overgrown Weeds in Hue

In 2009, the Viet Village Tourism Area project was launched on a plot of land along Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street (Thuy Xuan Ward, Hue City) by the initial investor, Trung Viet Joint Stock Company, with a total capital of over 106 billion VND.

At the time, the project was envisioned to become a 5-star resort featuring 16 garden villas, a 500-seat international conference hall, and nearly 15,000 m² of greenery, gardens, and water features upon completion.

Phase 1 of the project was expected to be completed within 2 years on a 7-hectare area, including a reception area, central service zone, water pavilion, handicraft village, spa, and festival area. Phase 2 would expand to 30 hectares, adding bungalows, a spiritual zone, fairy well, temple, herbal garden, and sports facilities.

However, after more than 15 years, the project remains a collection of abandoned, moss-covered structures amidst overgrown weeds and trees.

A report by VTC News on October 20 revealed abandoned ponds, deteriorating structures, and rubble within the project, with wild birds creating an eerie atmosphere.

Rusting steel frames, collapsed roofs, and moss-covered walls are scattered across the site. Approximately 8 unfinished structures have been abandoned for decades.

Once-praised mural walls now lie in ruins, engulfed by weeds and green moss.

Half-built houses, engulfed by wild vegetation, create a haunting and chilling sight.

Some brick and concrete structures show signs of vandalism.

Inside the structures, bricks and tiles lie scattered. Local residents passing by often sigh with regret at the sight.

Initially owned by Trung Viet Joint Stock Company, the project was later transferred to Royale Star Vietnam Joint Stock Company. The stagnation is attributed to both internal and external factors, including the investor’s financial crisis.

According to the Thuy Xuan Ward People’s Committee, local authorities are reviewing and updating project information to report to higher authorities. The ward hopes the project will resume soon, contributing to local tourism and economic development.
