According to the Hanoi City Police, on the evening of October 19, 2025, the Dai Thanh Commune Police received an urgent report from the family of child N (born in 2007, residing in Dai Thanh). The child had called to inform them that they had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of 150 million VND.

Immediately, the Dai Thanh Commune Police identified this as an online kidnapping scam impersonating law enforcement. The authorities advised the family not to transfer any money and implemented professional measures to reassure child N. After approximately 20 minutes, child N returned home safely.

At the police station, child N revealed that the scammer had impersonated a police officer, claiming the child was involved in a drug ring. The scammer then manipulated the child psychologically, instructing them to go to a motel and call their parents to report the kidnapping and demand the ransom.

The Dai Thanh Commune Police educated child N and their family about the scam tactics.

Hanoi City Police Advisory:

To prevent online kidnapping scams impersonating law enforcement, the Hanoi City Police urge the public, especially parents, students, and teachers, to take the following precautions:

1. Awareness and Education: Actively educate your family and loved ones about the methods and tactics used by these scammers.

2. The “3 NO” Rule:

– DO NOT share personal information, account details, or student IDs with strangers.

– DO NOT follow instructions received via phone or social media from individuals claiming to be police, prosecutors, or court officials.

– DO NOT transfer money in response to unusual requests.

3. Verify Information: If you receive a call demanding money for your child under suspicious circumstances, directly contact and verify the information through multiple channels (e.g., call another phone number, message your child’s friends).

4. Report Immediately: If you suspect any scam activity, report it immediately to the nearest police station to prevent potential harm.

The Hanoi City Police also urge schools to intensify awareness campaigns and equip students with the skills to recognize and avoid scams.
