The DT994 coastal route begins at its intersection with Road 991B (Phước Tân Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) and ends at National Highway 55 (Bình Châu Commune, Ho Chi Minh City; formerly part of Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province), extending into what is now Lâm Đồng Province.
Spanning 76.86 km, this project boasts a total investment of over 7 trillion VND. Construction commenced in June 2023, with a design capacity of 6-8 lanes and a speed limit of 80 km/h. As a pivotal transportation initiative, it plays a strategic role in connecting the Southeast region.

The DT994 section from NH51 to Cửa Lấp Bridge is nearing completion.
Notably, the upgrade and expansion of the segment from Nhà Lớn Roundabout to National Highway 51, along with the new construction from NH51 to Cửa Lấp Bridge, represent a significant investment. Progress is accelerating, alongside key components like Cửa Lấp 2 Bridge, the Long Hải to Hồ Tràm upgrade, and the Hồ Tràm – Bình Châu segment. Land clearance is 60-70% complete, and major construction packages began mid-2024, now in full swing.
The primary challenge is converting forest land use and finalizing land reclamation procedures due to administrative changes post-merger. Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities and relevant departments are collaborating closely with local governments to resolve issues, ensuring uninterrupted, safe, and timely construction.

Upon completion, DT994 will connect with Lâm Đồng Province’s coastal routes.
Once finished, DT994 will seamlessly link with major arteries like the Biên Hòa – Vũng Tàu Expressway, NH51, and the former Bình Thuận coastal route, forming the “Vũng Tàu – Bình Thuận Coastal Highway.” This will alleviate pressure on NH55 and NH51 while expanding coastal tourism, services, and industry, driving sustainable maritime economic growth.
Scheduled for substantial completion between 2026 and 2027, DT994 will significantly enhance the strategic transportation network, strengthening ties between the Southeast and South Central Coast regions. This will provide a powerful boost to Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic development in the new era.
