Van Don International Airport is Vietnam’s first private airport. Developed by Sun Group under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model, the project cost approximately VND 7.7 trillion. Spanning 325 hectares, the airport was constructed in just two years (2016–2018), a remarkable feat.

Certified by the Ministry of Transport, Van Don International Airport meets ICAO’s 4E standards and serves as a Level II military airport. It can accommodate large aircraft such as the B777, B747, and A350, a capability shared only with major international airports like Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Noi Bai, and Can Tho.

The passenger terminal features two floors and two levels, designed to handle up to 5 million passengers annually, with an initial capacity of 2.5 million. By 2020, the airport will have a minimum of four aircraft parking positions, expanding to at least seven by 2030.

Since its inauguration, Van Don Airport has served nearly 1 million passengers across approximately 7,000 flights.

In 2025, Quang Ninh’s tourism sector aims to welcome 21 million visitors, including 15.5 million domestic and 4.5 million international tourists. The projected revenue from tourism is VND 50 trillion. Chinese tourists are pivotal to achieving this goal. As a province bordering China both by land and sea, China is a key international market for Quang Ninh’s tourism.

The Quang Ninh Provincial Electronic Information Portal reports that in the final months of 2025, approximately 350,000–400,000 Chinese tourists are expected to visit Quang Ninh. Many groups range from 1,000 to 2,000 visitors, staying for 3 days and 2 nights or 4 days and 3 nights. These tourists prefer high-quality services and accommodations at 4–5 star hotels in Quang Ninh.

To further attract these visitors, Quang Ninh has intensified tourism promotions and diversified offerings, focusing on cruise tourism and border-crossing tourism.

Additionally, the province has enriched its cultural activities, organizing festivals and major events to promote tourism and attract international visitors. These efforts aim to establish Quang Ninh as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers, solidifying its position as Vietnam’s leading tourism hub.
