On October 23, Mr. Pham Van Tuong (60 years old; residing in Tam Vu commune, Tay Ninh province) announced that he had agreed on a uniform price for red-fleshed dragon fruit with traders, at 4,500 VND per kilogram, regardless of grade 1, 2, or 3.

“During this main season, my family harvested about 1 ton of red-fleshed dragon fruit. At the price the traders offered this morning, there’s no profit at all. Instead, I still have to pay off over 20 million VND in fertilizer and pesticide debts, not to mention labor costs,” Mr. Tuong said sadly.
Slightly better off, about a week ago, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh (residing in Vinh Cong commune, Tay Ninh province) sold 2 tons of red-fleshed dragon fruit, with grade 1 priced at 8,000 VND per kilogram, and grades 2 and 3 at 4,000-5,000 VND per kilogram. Compared to just a month ago, these prices are only one-third of what they were.
“About 10 years ago, dragon fruit helped local residents ‘change their lives.’ Red-fleshed dragon fruit was priced between 50,000 and 70,000 VND per kilogram. However, in recent years, life has become very difficult due to unstable dragon fruit prices and an unpredictable market,” Mr. Binh shared.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Nguyen Pham Ngoc (residing in Vinh Cong commune, Tay Ninh province), during the golden era, he owned 3-4 warehouses, shipping hundreds of tons of dragon fruit daily. However, at present, he no longer retains any warehouses, having rented them out or closed them due to the highly volatile dragon fruit prices.
According to Mr. Ngoc, the current uniform purchase price for dragon fruit at the orchard ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 VND per kilogram. The sharp decline in prices during the main season is due to ‘oversupply’; favorable weather has led to high yields. Additionally, it’s the peak harvest season for various other fruits, and prolonged rain and storms have slowed dragon fruit consumption.

Despite low prices, residents in Tay Ninh province continue to harvest dragon fruit to prepare for the next season
Furthermore, dragon fruit is primarily exported to China, but since China is also harvesting dragon fruit at this time, it has impacted domestic prices.
