On the evening of October 24th, representatives from the Economic Police Department (PC03) of Ho Chi Minh City Police announced the successful crackdown on a major counterfeit operation. The case, codenamed “Production and Trade of Counterfeit Goods,” targeted a syndicate producing and selling fake perfumes from renowned brands such as Chanel, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Burberry, and Dior.

The ring was led by the couple Nguyen Ngoc Tho (40 years old) and Truong Thi Mai Hien (41 years old).

According to authorities, since early 2024, Nguyen Ngoc Tho, Director of Nguyen Huong Development Trading and Production Company Limited, noticed a growing demand for perfumes among customers. He then self-taught and developed formulas to create counterfeit fragrances.

Tho and his wife, Truong Thi Mai Hien, purchased machinery, raw materials, fragrances, tools, and counterfeit packaging for luxury brands like Chanel, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Burberry, and Dior. They leased a workshop on Cay Keo Street, Tam Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, where they employed family members to produce fake perfumes. The process involved all stages, from formulation and bottling to label printing, affixing, and packaging.

The counterfeit perfumes were sold to customers through online groups and express delivery services, reaching buyers across multiple provinces and cities in large quantities.

Executing the operation, three PC03 task forces conducted searches at three locations: the company’s office, warehouse, and production facility. Authorities seized nearly 20,000 bottles of counterfeit perfumes from major brands, along with production tools and materials, including chemicals, alcohol, fragrances, computers, printers, stamping machines, labels, and more.

The syndicate is estimated to have profited over 15 billion VND from their illegal activities.

Police have arrested and charged 11 suspects for further investigation into charges of producing and trading counterfeit goods, tax evasion, and related legal violations.
