The Ho Chi Minh City Transportation Project Management Unit (HCM Transport Board) announced that the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project has completed approximately 63% of its total volume. Despite a localized technical incident at Branch A Bridge (XL1 contract package), the main route is still on track to open on December 19.

Construction area of Branch A, Ring Road 3 at the HLD intersection

The incident occurred during the construction of the road structure at the head of Branch A Bridge, part of the intersection between Ring Road 3 and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.

Specifically, a section of the retaining wall foundation, approximately 35 meters long and over 6 meters high, experienced localized subsidence, causing partial displacement of the structure.

Upon discovery, the HCM Transport Board and relevant units immediately halted construction, removing backfill material behind the pier to reduce pressure on the surrounding structure.

Authorities are investigating the cause and adjusting technical solutions to prevent similar incidents.

The revised design documents for this section are currently under review by specialized agencies. The HCM Transport Board assures that the incident will not affect the overall project timeline. Contractors are working extended hours, including night shifts and a 3-shift, 4-team rotation, to make up for lost time.

According to the plan, on December 19, 14.7 km of the elevated section through the former Thu Duc District will open, along with the technical opening of 32.6 km of the expressway through Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, and Binh Chanh districts. Subsequently, by April 30, 2026, the entire 47.3 km expressway will be completed, and by June 30, 2026, the entire Ring Road 3 project will be operational.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has requested the City People’s Committee to direct the HCM Transport Board to resolve the Branch A incident promptly, enhance quality supervision, and take corrective measures against contractors lagging behind schedule.
