Vietnam to Further Expand Market Access for U.S. Goods

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister, Bùi Thanh Sơn, has reaffirmed the country's commitment to significantly increase imports of American goods, particularly high-tech products such as aircraft and semiconductors. This initiative aims to expand market opportunities for U.S. goods and ensure a conducive business environment for American companies operating in Vietnam.

On October 23, at the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son received U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the continued positive development of bilateral relations, with numerous meaningful activities marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties. In this spirit, he urged both sides to maintain the positive momentum of their relationship, including high-level exchanges and delegations.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam’s desire to strengthen cooperation with the U.S. in areas of mutual interest within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in science and technology, high-quality human resource training, energy, and semiconductors. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in addressing war legacies and building trust.

Acknowledging the productive negotiations between the two delegations, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested the U.S. to consider Vietnam’s unique economic factors during the negotiation of the reciprocal tax agreement.

Vietnam will continue to increase imports of U.S. goods, especially high-tech products such as aircraft and semiconductors, expand market access for U.S. goods, and create favorable conditions for U.S. businesses to operate effectively in Vietnam.

Ambassador Knapper emphasized the importance of promoting exchanges and contacts at all levels, including high-level engagements, to sustain the substantial and positive development of relations between the two countries.

He expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s proactive and understanding approach to U.S. concerns, noting that the U.S. aims to finalize the reciprocal tax agreement negotiations promptly for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Ambassador Knapper also confirmed that the U.S. Embassy will work closely with Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies to discuss measures for expanding cooperation across all fields. He expressed the U.S.’s vision of a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, with a robust strategic partnership contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and beyond.
