This year’s off-season mango harvest has brought joy to farmers in Cu Lao Gieng commune, An Giang province. After a prolonged period of unstable agricultural prices, the rise in mango demand has provided a positive boost to this fruit-specialized region. Currently, green-skinned mangoes are being purchased by traders at 27,000 VND/kg, seedless mangoes at 19,000 VND/kg, and premium yellow-skinned mangoes fetch up to 55,000 VND/kg, the highest rate ever recorded.
Speaking to Dan Viet Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien, Director of Cu Lao Gieng GAP Cooperative, shared that at current prices, farmers can profit between 20–25 million VND per plot. Since the beginning of the year, the cooperative has exported approximately 500 tons of mangoes to the US, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and China. By adhering to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, obtaining planting area codes, and implementing drip irrigation, fruit bagging, and organic fertilizers, farmers have reduced production costs, increasing profits by 20–30% compared to previous years.

Towards Sustainable Agriculture
Mangoes are a key export fruit in Vietnam, with an annual production of approximately 1.2 million tons. Provinces like An Giang, Dong Thap, and Son La are promoting sustainable practices, recognizing this as the sole path to enhance value and integrate globally.
In Dong Thap, the “mango capital” of the Mekong Delta, over 12,000 hectares of mangoes have received 187 planting area codes, forming 15 stable supply chains. Processed products such as dried mangoes, juice, jam, and mango peel essential oil increase value by 2–3 times compared to fresh sales. Additionally, digital transformation in plantation management, QR code traceability, pest monitoring via sensors, and automated irrigation are being accelerated, contributing to resource conservation and environmental protection.
Sustainable agriculture is no longer a distant goal but a practical key to prosperity for farmers on their own land, while opening doors for Vietnamese mangoes to integrate globally.
